What is the Office for Gender Equality ?

About the establishment of the Office for Gender Equality

The Office for Gender Equality was established on January 21, 2003 in order to actively work to achieve gender equality through internal processes at Nagoya University. It was the first national university in Japan to take this step. Specifically, the Office's duties include involvement in positive action, correcting gender discrimination and disparities, complaint processing system for monitoring purposes, the Gender Equality Social Promotion / Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration Forum, the Basic Humanities-Sciences Gender Research Project, the Policy Research Project, and other avenues to promote gender equality at this University.

Regulations of the Nagoya University Office for Gender Equality

(Establishment)
Article 1
In order to promote a society with gender equality, a Office for Gender Equality is hereby established at Nagoya University ("the University" below).
(Mission)
Article 2
The Office for Gender Equality has the following mission:
 1. To be involved in measures to correct gender disparities.
 2. To be involved in education and research related to gender equality.
 3. To be involved in the establishment and implementation of programs to promote the hiring and advancement of female teaching staff
 4. To be involved in the creation of a workplace environment that is responsive to diverse working styles as well as to be involved in information-related and awareness-raising activities related to the use of such environments
 5. To be involved in the creation and promotion of measures to foster and support female researchers and students.
 6. To be involved in the planning, agreement-forming, and promotion initiatives inside and outside the University related to gender equality planning work.
7. To be involved in the Gender Equality Social Promotion / Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration Forum
 8. To be involved in other gender equality initiatives at the University
(Staff)
Article 3
The Office for Gender Equality shall have a Office Head and staff.
(Office Head)
Article 4
The Office Head shall be chosen by the Provost based on the recommendations of the Nagoya University Gender Equality Promotion Special Special Committee from the professors and assistant processors at the University.
3 The Office Head shall take charge of the mission of the Office for Gender Equality.
(Office members)
Article 5
Office members shall be chosen from the teaching staff at the University.
2 Office members shall engage in the mission of the Office for Gender Equality following the instructions of the Office Head.
(Miscellaneous regulations)
Article 6
Any rules related to the Gender Equality Office that is required other than these regulations shall be established by the Provost.
Supplementary regulations
1 These regulations shall be enforced from April 1, 2004
2 Notwithstanding the regulations in Article 4, Section 2, the term of the first Office Head subsequent the enforcement of these regulations shall be until March 31, 2005.
Supplement regulation (Regulation 106, March 28, 2007)
This regulation shall come into enforcement on April 1, 2007.
Supplement regulation (Regulation 49, March 15, 2011)
This regulation shall come into enforcement on April 1, 2011.
