Gender Equality Promotion Structure at Nagoya University

1. Gender Equality Promotion Special Committee (Committee Head: President)
This committee is made of the membership of the Department Head Committee with the Provost as the Committee Head. It is the top policymaking group related to gender equality at Nagoya University. This committee shall deliberate
- basic polices concerning gender equality
- the planning, establishment, and implementation of measures to promote gender equality
- the inspection, evaluation, and improvement of the implementation status of gender equality promotion
- the exchange of information related to gender equality promotion with various levels and fields within the University and related groups outside the University
- the provision, announcement, and disclosure of information concerning gender equality promotion
- anything other than the above related to gender equality promotion What is determined here will be disseminated as the basic policies of Nagoya University related to gender equality promotion.

2.Gender Equality Promotion Special Committee (Committee Head: Trustee in charge of gender equality)
This is a special committee established in accordance with Article 6 of the Regulations for Nagoya University Gender Equality Promotion Committee, and is comprised by University members who have expertise in gender equality. In order to further the thrust of the Gender Equality Promotion Department, this Committee will explore concrete investigations and measure to promote gender equality, and propose them to the Promotion Committee. As of FY2006, there are four working groups.

3.Gender Equality Office
As described in the Establishment Declaration for the Nagoya University Office of Gender Equality, this Office was established through University processes to contribute the creation of a gender-equal society. Working with the Gender Equality Promotion Special Committee, the Office will implement concrete activities.


Regulations of the Nagoya University Gender Equality Promotion Committee

(Establishment)
Article 1
In order to gender equality at this University, a Gender Equality Promotion Committee
("the Committee" below) is hereby established.
(Deliberation items)
Article 2
The Committee will deliberate the following items:
 1. Anything related to basic policies concerning gender equality promotion
 2. Anything related to the planning, establishment, and implementation of measures to promote
gender equality.
 3. Anything concerning the inspection, evaluation, and improvement of the implementation
status of gender equality promotion.
 4. Anything related to the exchange of information related to gender equality promotion with
various levels and fields within the University and related groups outside the University.
 5. Anything related to the provision, announcement, and disclosure of information concerning
gender equality promotion.
 6. Anything other than the above related to gender equality promotion.
(Structure)
Article 3
The Committees shall be comprised of the members of the Department Head Committee of the University.
(Committee Head)
Article 4
A Committee Head shall be established for the Committee, and the Provost shall act as the the Committee Head.
2 The Committee Head shall assemble Committee Members and shall act as the Chair.
(Quorum)
Article 5
Quorum is established in the Committee when more than half of the members are present, and motions are determined with the majority of those present.
(Special Committee)
Article 6
The Nagoya University Gender Equality Promotion Special Committee ("Special Committee" below" is hereby established under the Committee.
2. Items required related to this Special Committee shall be decided separately.
(General affairs)
Article 7
The General affairs of the Committee shall be handled by the Personnel Section, General Affairs Div. with the cooperation of the related departments.
(Miscellaneous regulations )
Article 8
Any rules related to the Committee that is required other than these regulations shall be established by the Provost after deliberation by the Committee.

Supplementary regulations
This regulation shall be effective from April 1, 2004.
Supplemental regulation (Regulation 4, April 18, 2006)
This regulation will be enforced starting April 18, 2006, and shall come into effect starting April 1, 2006

This regulation shall come into enforcement from April 1, 2011.

Article 1
See this detailed regulation for items related to the Nagoya University Gender Equality Special Committee (below, "Special Committee") established in accordance to Article 6 of teh Nagoya Universtiy Gender Equality Promotion Committe Regulations (Regulation 13, FY 2004. "Regulation" below).
(Deliberation items)
Article 2
The Special Subcommittee shall deliver expert items out of the deliberation items specified in Article 2 of the Regulation.
(Structure)
Article 3
The Special Committee shall be comprised of the following:
 1. A person (either a Trustee or Assistant Provost) designated by the Provost
  2. Head of the Office for Gender Equality
 3. Two university teaching staff out of the following: Graduate School of Letters,
Graduate School of Education and human Development, Graduate School of Law,
Graduate School of Economics, Graduate School of International Relations,
Graduate School of International Development, Graduate School of Languages
and Cultures, Graduate School of Environmental Studies, and the Research Center
of Health, Physical Fitness, and Sports.
  4. Two university teaching staff out of the following: Graduate School of Science,
Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Bioagriculture,
Graduate School of Mathematics, Graduate School of Information Sciences,
Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, attached laboratories, and attached hospitals.
 5. General Affairs Div. Head
6. Other employees of the University deemed by the Special Committee to be appropriate.
2 The Committee members in Section 3, 4, and 6 above shall be designated by the Provost.
(Terms)
Article 4
The Terms of the committee members described in Section 2 in the Article above shall be 2 years. However, they may be reappointed.
2 When there is a vacancy for a committee member, they shall be appointed as required. The term of the committee member shall be the remaining term of the person he/she replaced.
(Committee Head)
Article 5
A Committee Head shall be established for the Special Committee, and a committee member from Article 3 Section 1 No. 1 shall act as the the Committee Head.
(Quorum)
Article 6
Quorum is established in the Special Committee when more than half of the members are present, and motions are determined with the majority of those present.
(Collecting opinions)
Article 7
When the Special Committee deems it necessary, they can request the participation of people who are not Special Committee members to listen to their opinions.
(General affairs)
Article 8
The general affairs of the Special Committee shall be handled by the Personnel Section, General Affairs Div.

Supplementary regulations
1 This detailed regulation shall be enforced from April 1, 2004.
2 Notwithstanding the detailed regulation in Article 4, Section 1, the term of the first committee members subsequent the enforcement of these regulations shall be until March 31, 2005.
